Character Casting & Performer Policy

At Believe in Magic Events, our goal is to create a magical, memorable, and inclusive experience for every child and family.

 

Our characters are fictional, and while some have specific cultural or historical identities that are important to their stories, one actor or on-screen portrayal cannot represent the incredible diversity of the real world.

 

Our performers may not look exactly like the character’s movie portrayal — and that’s okay, that’s the point!

 

We believe there can be many beautiful ways to bring a fictional character to life, while still respecting the stories and identities that make them who they are.

Our Characters

• Our characters are portrayed by a diverse team of talented performers.

• A character may therefore be portrayed by performers with different skin tones, racial or ethnic backgrounds, body types, facial features, ages, and other physical characteristics.

• The performer’s individual appearance does not change the character they are portraying or the quality of the character experience provided.

 

Performer Assignment

• When booking with Believe in Magic Events, the Client is booking the character experience, rather than a specific performer.

• To provide a consistent and reliable service, Believe in Magic Events selects and assigns performers based on factors including availability, scheduling, location, qualifications, costume requirements, and suitability for the event.

• For this reason, Clients do not select, require, or guarantee a particular performer for their booking.

Respectful Treatment of Performers

• We ask that all Clients and guests help us maintain a welcoming and respectful environment for our performers.

• Performers should be treated with courtesy and respect throughout the event.

• Negative, discriminatory, insulting, inappropriate, or unwanted comments regarding a performer’s appearance or personal characteristics are not permitted.

Respectful Treatment of Performers

• This includes, but is not limited to, comments regarding a performer’s:

• Race or ethnicity

• Skin tone

• Body or body type

• Facial features

• Age

• Other personal or physical characteristics

• Comments suggesting that a performer does not “look like” a character because of their race, ethnicity, skin tone, or other physical characteristics are not considered appropriate.​

 

Performer Changes & Substitutions

• Believe in Magic Events reserves the right to assign a different qualified performer or substitute a performer when reasonably necessary, including due to illness, emergencies, scheduling conflicts, availability, or other circumstances affecting the performance.

• Any replacement performer will be qualified to portray the character and will provide the services included in the Client’s booking.

Appearance-Based Rejection, Cancellation & Refunds

• A difference between the assigned performer’s physical appearance and the Client’s personal expectations does not constitute a failure to provide the booked service.

• Accordingly, a Client may not reject a qualified performer, require a different performer, cancel the booking, or request a refund, discount, or other compensation solely because of the performer’s race, ethnicity, skin tone, body type, facial features, age, or other physical characteristics.

Inappropriate Conduct

• If a Client or guest engages in harassment, discrimination, threatening behaviour, or repeated inappropriate or disrespectful conduct toward a performer, Believe in Magic Events reserves the right to address the behaviour and, when necessary, end the performance.

• If a performance is ended as a result of inappropriate, discriminatory, harassing, or unsafe behaviour by the Client or their guests, the Client remains responsible for the booked service and will not be entitled to a refund based on the termination of the performance.

By booking with Believe in Magic Events, the Client confirms that they have read, understood, and agreed to this Character Casting & Performer Policy.
